An article from the CNBC.Com reports that the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a challenge from motor transport associations in three New England states which claimed that the 2003 Maine law is pre-empted by the Federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act of 1994.

The Maine tobacco sales law is intended to keep minors from avoiding age verification when ordering cigarettes online. Also, the law is aimed at assisting the state in collecting tobacco taxes.

Personally speaking, underage purchase of cigarettes should be prohibited at all costs. The court should remain firm in its stand and rise up to the challenge.
